For some unknown reason my regedit program will not allow me to edit the
registry.
As an old DOS die-hard I used the attrib for the program an none of the
attributes have been set.

How can I remove write protection

Yes Ron that is correct. I can open and perform all functions. But on exiting and returning to my edits the old info is still there

I don't have any ideas. Sorry

Not all entries like to be deleted, and may be recreated by explorer or other programs. If you
create a dummy key, are you then able to delete it? If so, be more specific about the keys/values
you're trying to delete.

Whatever method you used, "attrib.exe" or Properties, use the
same way to remove the r attribute. With attrib, it's -r. Are
you sure that's the problem?

Real play placed the following line: TKBELLEXE Reg_SZ "C:\program
files\real\update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot, into my registry. I ran
uninstall and for most pactical purposes it did remove the program.

The above entry however remained in my registry at stat up it still shows in
different areas (i.e. MSconfig, running allotcated resources) . I have
manually tried removing it from current_user and Local_machine only for them
to return. The reigstry is not editing. I also have two other programs that
I have removed and their entries remain and they also can not be removed

The question remains:

If you create a key, are you then able to delete it?

If so, there is probably nothing wrong with regedit.

Have you used task manager to kill the processes in question and then deleted the entries?

When you delete the entries, do they return immediately or upon restart?

I can neither add or delete. I have killed the running ?(entry) then tried
the editor to no avail. I have also tried installing a new program and the
registry will not update to show it installed.

Nothing in - nothing out

Hmmm...weird. Not sure about anything but check the following:

Registry permissions: right-click a key -> 'Permissions' -> 'Advanced'

make sure your username has full control.

check the file permissions for the ntuser.dat files. In a command prompt, type:

dir /a /s /b ntuser.dat

for a complete listing.
