Outlook 2003

I thought I knew how to do this, I guess I was wrong. I formatted my drive,
installed Windows XP Pro SP2, reinstalled Office Pro 2003. I had backed-up
my pst file, I restored it to my data directory, then chose
File/Open/Outlook Data file to load it into Outlook.

I tried it twice (once after deleting the generic pst) both times it yielded
a set of folders entitled Bob's Folders (me) -The calendar contains
appointments only up until last March and nothing since then. There is
nothing at all in the Contacts folder (it has several subfolders under it
but none now), there is also nothing in the inbox and again the subfolders
are missing (there was a ton of email). I suspect the info is in there
somewhere because the file is listed as 1,795,072 in size. There is also a
folder that was not there before entitled "Handheld Synchronization" (I had
been syncing my Palm with the appt calendar) but other than a couple of
reminder notes there is nothing there either.

What might I be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance... Bob

that's the correct procedure.
Try running scanpst.exe on it just in case it is corrupt. It also can't be
read-only but if you can open it then it mustn't be.

I type in "scanpst" (or scanpst.exe) in the WinXP run box and get a message
back that Windows cannot find scanpst. What's up?

Bob

I found it. It said there were errors and they were repaired but I still
get nothing. I may be out of luck.

Bob

It is what was in my data folder that I stored it in (for easy backup, ha!).
I can try restoring from a previous backup as I am pretty deligent about
that. If it helps here is a copy of the report generated when I ran
scanpst.exe:

**Beginning PST/OST recovery

**Attempting to recover all top-level objects

!!Folder invalid high-water-mark (nidi=555, nidiHigh=96B)

**Attempting to walk all folders

!!Hierarchy Table for 122, row doesn't match sub-object:

irow = 0, RowID = 2223

**Attempting to locate any orphaned folders/messages

**Attempting to check top-level objects for consistency

??Deleting SDO

Thanks again... Bob

By default, the .pst file in use is hidden by Windows. You may have grabbed
your backup or archived .pst file. What was the date on the file when you
copied it?

Is that the last date you used your default .pst file? Or is this the date
of your last archiving?

Both. I backed up immediately before reformatting. (Sorry for the delay
getting back to you, I just got out of the hospital.
