Regarding hosts file problem

When ever I try to open our intranet site Xp will show
error No page to display. Then i will search for the hosts
file this was missing. Hosts file is in hidden mode. It
was protected as system file. Then I have to copy this
file and replace the file in that place then my intranet
will work.
