Reg Edit Program

Does anybody know of a good RegEdit program that's safer to use than the one
in WinXP. It's nice to have a choice upon exiting the registry to "save
changes" or not. Sometimes when searching or looking through the registry
your not always sure that you have not inadvertently changed something. A
caution of "do you want to save your changes" would be comforting.

Resplendent Registrar is not free, and it has some interface quirks, but
none where safety is involved. It has an option to prompt you before
making *any* changes to the registry--and also has an "undo" feature.

I think you need to understand that any registry edits are put into
place *immediately* when you make them in any registry editor. As
others mentioned, you need to back up the keys *before* making changes.

I agree with the recommendation for Registrar Lite, though, which is
fairly easy to use & has some nice features although the free version
doesn't have an Undo.

Resplendent Registrar, which is what I use and recommend, can prompt you
*before* any changes are made to the registry. That is what I was
asking about with regard to the Vilma utility.

Prompting before a change is made is a valid concern; it helps prevent
accidental changes. And when Resplendent Registrar prompts you prior to
a change, that change has *not* been made yet. I'm not sure why you are
talking about "immediate" changes when the point is prompting before
changes are made in the first place.

Sorry, I may not have read carefully enough; you're talking about the
full version. The Lite version (free! and pretty d***ed good) doesn't
do that, nor a few other things the full version does.

I don't remember. But it does make a backup file when you make
changes, and lets you undo changes by reverting to the backup.
