If the Windows Firewall is enabled, make sure you've got an exception set
for file & printer settings. Beyond that, you'd need to tell us how you
networked the two computers, and what you've tried already.

Hi, I've disable all firewall that my comp could have. I set the network
manualy because I had the same prb with the automatic configuration. My IP
are 192.168.0.1 for the main comp and 192.168.0.2 for the client. Subnet mask
is 255.255.255.0. I even desactivated the firewall of my nVidia motherboard
to do it. The two comp can ping the other but when I try to acces main comp
with the client it doesn't work and says " you do not dispose of the right
session opening to access this comp". Waiting for your response... thx

Make sure you have an identical username & password configured on each
computer.

Is that an nVidia nForce motherboard? You may need to read a bit about it from
other nVidia nForce customers.

Now, are the two computers running XP Home or Pro? If Pro, Simple or Advanced
File Sharing? This makes a significant difference.

Hi, I have identical username and password(none in this case) on the 2 comp.
With that, the firewall of my nVidia motherboard is desactivated and the one
of Win XP too. The 2 comp are running XP home but the only difference is that
one have SP1 and the other one have SP2. But, I don't want to put SP2 on the
ohter because I only have a 5gig HDD (really old laptop) and I have a big
file to transfer so... help this can help you in helping me resolve my
prob... thx

The SP shouldn't make a difference.

So, you can ping by IP address, right? And you can ping by name?

What happens when you try this in a command line:

net use x: \\othercomputer\sharename

?

How about

net use x: \\othercomputer\sharename /othercomputer\username

?

After trying multiple time the second command line, I was not able to make it
work. Maybe I'm not able to enter it correctly, but for the first one it says
"the command ended correctly". I have tried many thing on chuck weebsite and
it did not work. I've tried to enter ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u Guest
and the other. downlaoded the security tab of XP PRO. All this kind of
things. Bu now, something work... the internet. Unfortunatly, I really need
the files sahring so I'm waiting for you... If you have any ohter question
ask me... THX

Hi,
I can't say for sure if this will help, but I recently had a similar
problem. In my situation we had recently upgraded one of our 2 XP home's to
pro and a previosly working share started refusing access right afterwards.
I read alot and tried alot but the solution turned out to be surprisingly
simple. I deleted everything(all the shares-not the network Icons) in My
Network Places. Then I unshared all the shared folders on each computer and
rebooted. After rebooting I re-shared the folders I wanted on each computer
then went to My Network Places and chose Add A Network Place and followed the
wizard and browsed for the shared folders, renamed them on the next screen
and now everything works fine.

I don't know how your network is set up, so I can't say if your problem is
the same as mine. What makes me think they are similar is the fact that my
computers could ping each other and see the shared folders but weren't
allowed acces to each other.

Anyway, I hope you get your problem solved.
Good Luck,
LDB
