How is everyone? I have my Dell Reinstallation CD, but will that actually
enable me to reinstall Windows XP Home? I am not completely sure of the
steps, but I assume I would either need to run it from this CD or can I
format the hard drive and then reinstall Windows XP Home from the CD? I
don't think I can, but I am not sure what to do?

Call Dell. They are your first line of support.

Dell reinstall CD's are typically OEM copies of XP, it will allow you to
format your drive and reinstall.

You should have a 2nd CD that contains drivers pertaining to your machine,
these can be updated later from the Dell website or create your own CD
before you perform the reinstall.

I reinstalled windows, but now I can't connect to the internet? It says all
devices working properly. I loaded their driver disc, etc., but still no
connection?

Same advice - contact Dell.
However - it might be useful if you told us HOW you connect to the
Internet..

Dial-Up?
Cable Modem/DSL over Network? over USB?
Something else?

In the device manager - are there any missing drivers?

Have you contacted your ISP for help connecting a new computer?

I am using a DSL connection through the use of a router. In the device
manager, it does not say that there are any missing drivers, but I'll go
through and check again.

Check in order:

First - Log into your Router's Web Interface and from the
Status Page - verify it is connected to the Internet and has
been assigned proper TCP/IP settings.

1.) Click Start, Run (Type) Cmd [Press Enter]
a.) Ipconfig /all
**Make sure IP does not start with 169.
2.) Ping your router 192.168.x.x
3.) Ping your ISP's Gateway Address
4.) Ping your ISP's DNS
3.) Ping a WAN IP, such as DSLReports.Com

When I run CMD, there are no numbers that come up. It's like the ethernet
port doesn't exist?

Thanks for taking the time.

In the cmd prompt, did you type ipconfig /all ?

you might have to remove the MBR using debug before you can re install
windows. At least that was the case with our Dell laptop.

Thanks to everyone who helped me. I found a set of drivers for the 10/100
utility on the laptop from a cd from the manufacturer. I was able to enable
the LAN utility and then it connected to the internet. Thanks for all of
your suggestions. I do sincerely appreciate them.
