just back all of the contents/programs on my HD such as Norton on to
DVD-R disk using NERO Back-it-up and reload these programs once they O
has been installed?

the answer is no all prgrams will be delted and plus for something lik
norton just use its disk to set it up agai

The problem is most, if not all programs, will write entries into the
Registry and install files, principally 'dlls' in the System32 folder, and
in other Windows folders. It is virtually impossible to determine what and
where these program files are on the system. Clearly, when you format you
will wipe these files and your programs will no longer work. So, sorry, you
will need to reinstall not only the programs but the Windows updates once
you format.
