really need to re-format my hard drive as soon as possible, I'm not bothered
about the files that i will lose as i have them backed up, if any one ccould
tell me how in simple language (i'm a computer novice) i would appreciate it

If it didn't come with a Windows CD, did it come with a recovery partition
on the hard drive? Consult the documentation that came with the PC to see
what recovery options were included. You need either a recovery CD or a
recovery partition in order to get a factory install of Windows back on the
PC.

What make and model PC is it?

Buy a CD drive or perhaps even a DVD drive - they
cost very little. If this is still too much, go to a computer
disposal place and rip one out of a dead PC.

If the PC has a floppy drive, boot it with a Win98 boot
disk from www.bootdisk.com, then use fdisk.exe to
repartition the hard disk. However, unless you have a
CD drive you won't be able to reload Windows.

The PC manufacturer should have provided some means to restore the PC. They
have three options.
1. Installation CD
2, Recovery CD
3. Hidden partition on the hard drive with an image of the drive as
received from the factory.

If it didn't come with 1 or 2 then there must be 3. Check the computer
documentation or contact tech support for the computer.

If you got the computer from an individual who set it up for you, and they
did not give you a CD, then you're only choice is to contact them or buy a
copy of XP.
