My sister really screwed up my PC, so I decided the best way to knock out everything she downloaded (such as spyWare and AdWare) was to reformat. Now I've done this numerous times on many PC's, and have never run into the problem I am facing now

I go to do a fresh install, and when it comes to the screen where I am supposed to delete my current partition and create a new one, the "box" instead of showing my partiotns, says "unknown disc space. Setup Cannot access this disk

Now I am completely stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you look here you will find that you can format during the install of XP
no need to delete partitions

Boot from the CD and do a clean install.

Except the problem is, There is not a place for me to choose to install XP on. It asks me where I want to install the OS, and there is no option available.

I would suggest opening your case(after you shut down and shut power off)
check your IDE cables to make sure they are firmly seated on the drive as well
as the MOBO.
Then restart and enter your BIOS to check that your HD is recognized there and
set as 2nd Boot device with the CD being the first.
Then try XP install again
