Reformat Hard disk

Hi,

I am currently using Win Xp Pro and would like to
reformat my hard disk and reinstall Win Xp Pro again. My
hard disk is in NTFS format.

I have tried to reinstall win xp using the cd. When I'm
in the setup menu, I selected the <<DELETE PARTITION>>
option, but it doesn't work saying the partition I am
deleting contain some files which is required to perform
the installation!

How shall I reformat my hard disk?

It is Win Xp with Service Pack 1
