My WINDOWS directory is now 3.4 GB, which I cannot believe is required to run
the Operating System. Is there a way to determine which files can safely be
deleted. Some of the obvious choices are the $NTUninstall* files, but I'm
sure there are others.

It's not on common for your folder to grow to a capacity of this size do to
windows updates, parts of programs ect, and various componets that do rely on
this folder, Use "CAUTION" in this folder as removing some items can be
catastrophic to your system...
My system comes in at 2.19g in this folder so really your okay...
But house cleaning makes for a healthy system!

Hi,

It's not bloat, it's the way it is. In addition to the uninstall folders,
there is also the \ServicePackFiles folder, which is quite large at .5GB
(and should not be deleted). Look at the \temp folder as well (the contents
of which can be deleted). If you install some products, like Visual Studios,
they can place quite a number of files in the system32 directory and create
other fairly large directories.

Absolutely, you just lose the ability to uninstall the update.
