Red x Instead of Picture

Why do I get a white space with a red x in the corner? The pointing finger
indicates a live link, and one click takes me to the object.
Does some setting in OE need to be adjusted?

pictures are generally hosted on a server. Sometimes the link has been deleted. Sometimes it is a file association. Does it happen constantly or infrequently. What is the site? A sure way to check on the problem is to right click on the missing image, and go to properties. THat givves you the url where the pic is hosted. copy that address, and paste into explorer, and enter, and see what happens.

Are you running XP SP2? I thought I read that SP2 will block pictures in OE
so that Spammers can't tell that you are viewing their mail. I would assume
that there is a way to disable this like there is in Outlook 2003.

This is Windows XP Service Pack 1. I had no inkling that there was such a
thing as SP 2 yet.

It's from the NY Times. There is no right click because the mouse becomes a
pointing finger anywhere in the white space.

It hasn't yet been released; it's due this summer. But there are
those who are running SP2 Release Candidate 1, a test version.
