My friend claims no matter what he tries copy and paste or drag and
drop and sends a picture within the body of a leeter in Outlook
Express in Xp a red x shows up at the sent place. Is there a trick or
setting to correct this. I'm not talking about a n attachment but a
picture copied right in with text in body of the letter. Nick

you cannot copy and paste pictures. They must be
attached, even when the are embedded they are still a
seperate file.

Have your friend search the OE help file. There may be an option to include
a copy of an image instead of just sending a link to it. Depending on the
recipients security settings, they will either see the image within the body
of the e-mail or see it as an attached file. But there is no reason why you
can't copy and paste or drag an image into an e-mail, OE knows how to attach
files introduced in that manner.

If your friend is using Rich Text (HTML) format for sending the email: When
in the new message Compose window, and in the body of the message, click the
Insert Picture button on the toolbar directly above the message body area,
then in the Picture dialog box click the Browse button and navigate to, and
select the image file to be inserted. The above method is how it's done
with Outlook Express. Also, MAKE SURE that the option: Send Pictures With
Messages is selected: In the main Outlook Express Window click the Tools
menu, click Options, click the Send tab. Under the heading: Mail Sending
Format, click the HTML Settings button, and make sure that the Send Pictures
with Message option has a checkmark to the left of it. If it isn't there,
click to put it there, then click the OK button, and the Apply and OK
buttons at the bottom of the remaining dialog box.
