Can someone explain to me why Linux can't be used by Microsoft or DOS? I have
a nephew who has crashed numerous cp's and I have been told linux really
stinks, And that linux is it's own operating system? Any answers is
appreciated.

Is this for real?

Do a google search on Linux........And who told you "Linux stinks"? An
antivirus application vendor possibly?

There is an easy answer to this.. your nephew does not know what he is
doing.. he needs tuition badly, or persuasion to do something other than
computing.. whoever it was who told you that Linux stinks should also get
tuition or be persuaded to do something other than computing..

Microsoft is an IT company.. presumably your reference is to Microsoft
Windows XP which is an operating system.. DOS as in MS-DOS is an operating
system. released by Microsoft some years ago.. . Linux is also an operating
system.. Windows XP, DOS and Linux are all operating systems..

Anybody who has problems with Windows is surely going to have worse with
Linux..

Trip trap, who's that walking on my bridge? Not even a clever troll,
although the name "nonlinuxeser" does meet the traditional bad spelling
test.

Don't worry about this. If on the extremely slim chance you aren't a
troll, you obviously can't use a search engine so you aren't smart
enough to use Linux anyway.

Yes, Linux is an operating system. Therefore, if you run Linux, you
are not running DOS or *any* version of Windows.

Google for Linux, there's endless information on the 'net.

ROTFLMAO!

Yeh they won't get anything else either. hardly any software is written with
linux in mind

Gordon

If ever Linux gains the popularity of Windows, somebody somewhere will be
eating your words three times daily..

I beg your pardon? there's probably MORE software for Linux than there is
for Windows!

Try these for starters:
Open Office
MySQL
Apache
Gnucash
Abiword
MPlayer
KMail
Evolution
Nvu
Pan

etc etc

What a STUPID statement.

I don't see any knitting pattern software there, and your list is hardly
close to extensive..

Mike

Were you by any chance Madame Lafarge is a previous incarnation?

Lol.. hell no, but somebody in my wife's knitting group wanted a knitting
program for her computer.. unfortunately, her husband insisted on running
Linux because he couldn't 'do' Windows.. alas, no knitting pattern programs
available..

Thanks for the info I see their is alot of different opinions on this matter
and by the way anyone who supports and organization that allows access to
child porn sites such as google should have their heads examined.

Google isn't a child porn site.. it's a search engine.. I use it alongside
IE search.. don't get the kind of sites you are talking about.. then again,
I don't do searches for that kind of material, which makes me think that
maybe you do.. that or you are just repeating propaganda..

Linux will run on most computers built in the last 10 years.

But you don't install it under Windows and it won't run Windows
programs (except with a kludgy simulator).

Trying it out might be fun. You can download LIVE CD's which will run
without installing anything on your hard drive. Maybe your nephew
should have some say, if it's his computer.
