recylcle bin icon showing as a folder

My recycle bin on the desktop is appearing as a folder, how can I change it
back to a waste bin icon?
 
thanks Kaylene you are a star, I downloaded the script and ran it but it
tells me that I have an invalid root in registry key
What the hell does that mean? Whatever it is my icon hasn't re appeared
 
There could be an invalid entry in the registry, but I don't think that is a
place you should be in at the moment, see if this rectifies the problem?

1. Open the Display Properties dialog box by clicking any empty space on the
desktop and selecting Properties from the shortcut menu.
2. Click the Desktop tab of the Display Properties dialog box.
3. Click the Customize Desktop button. The Desktop Items dialog box appears,
with the General tab displayed.
4. Select the icon that you want to change from the box of icons in the Desktop
Items dialog box. Scroll left and right to see them all.
5. Click the Change Icon button (or Restore Default). The Change Icon dialog box
appears, showing you the icons available for this item.
6. When you find the icon you want, select it in the Change Icon dialog box and
click OK.
7. Click OK in the Desktop Items and Display Properties dialog boxes.
 
Hey Kaylene, thanks for your assistance, very kind. I fixed the problem by
using a neat piece of software called tuneup utilities 2004, it ran a
registry check and found that i had 164 registry problems, I clicked fix and
everything is working like a dream. All Icons have returned and in
conjunction with some of the other utils on the prog it has restored my
machine like new.I only have the 30 day trial at the moment but will be
purchasing for sure. I fully recommend this product.
