Hi Annie,
Hi guys,
My laptop with windows XP has a Recycler size of over 1 GB. What is this
Recycler same as Recycle Bin?
Yes, the folder named RECYCLER is your Recycle Bin.
Can i clean it? Looks like things are read only there?
Yes, you can delete files in the RECYCLER folder.
There are various scenarios that cause more than one Recycle Bin to
appear in the RECYCLER folder. Other Recycler files are created when
Windows is shut down improperly, or when a USB device is connected,
files are deleted from it, but the Recycle Bin is not emptied before
the device is removed.
Windows uses one of the files in the RECYCLER folder as the Recycle
Bin. Windows will not allow the current Recycle Bin to be deleted.
Select all of the files in that folder and press the delete key.
Windows will delete all the Recycle Bins except the one that is
currently in use.
Now you need to track down which USB device or network drive thinks
that those files were deleted---because they were not. The files won't
be accessible through the file manager, but they are still taking up
space on the drive or device and Windows won't overwrite that space
because the Recycle Bin in use at the time was not emptied and the
files were not "properly" deleted.
This isn't a big deal if you're talking about 1 gig of files on a huge
network drive in a Fortune 100 company---but it is disastrous if you're
talking about 1 gig of files on a 1 gig USB drive during a staff
meeting with the Board of Directors. (Plug in the USB drive, no files
are visible, the drive appears to be empty, but the drive is full and
won't accept any more files, and the Directors are staring at you in
silence.)
Hope that helps
