I am using WINXP SP2 and after emptying the Recycle Bin I note the desktop
icon still indicates items remaining although Explorer shows it as empty.
If I click the icon and choose to empty I get a message asking me if I want
to delete 'Windows'. Any idea what gives here?

As I have a full backup of my system I did in fact click 'Yes' and got the
'crackle' that signifies the empty action but the icon still shows the
Recycle Bin is not empty and clicking again still gives me the indication a
file/folder named Windows is available to be deleted.

Best way to deal with recycle bin probs is to delete it in safe mode,
command prompt. If you are dual booting another OS, go to that OS and
delete it.

It may me easier if you get hold of a copy of deltree.exe for the
deletion, it only accepts short filenames though.

The recycle bin will be re-created on boot up.

How do you delete the Recycle Bin? The MS Knowledge Base provides a set of
steps that relate to a file named 'Recycled', this file does not exist on my
machine, the closest being 'Recycler' as the partitions are formatted NTFS.

Looking at all the 'Recycler' folders does not show the entry 'Windows', so
I am at a loss to know where to look for this 'ghost'.
