Recycle Bin Recovery Problem

I had a file in a directory that was causing any program
that accessed that directory to shut down. Eventually I
was able to delete the file. But in doing so, I
inadvertently deleted other files. Now when I try to
retreive the files back out of the Recycle Bin, the
Recycle Bin immediately shuts down just like the other
programs had done.
Inside Explorer, I am able to copy the whole
directory "recycler" and even rename it, but if I try and
look inside the directory, it shuts Explorer down.
I was hoping if I took another hard drive and configured
it with NTFS and then put my original drive in as the
slave that I could get access to the files in the Recycle
Bin, but then it says there are no files even though I
know they are there.
I am lost as to what else to try.
Does anyone know how to turn the "hidden" attribute off
on the directory where the recycle bin resides? It is
grayed out when you look at Properties.
Is there an option of booting with a diskette and still
having access to an NTFS partition?
Any suggestions appreciated?

I didn't realize I could enter my email address so I've
listed it above and here: (e-mail address removed)

At the site in my signature you can download the dual-boot
version of the BootMatser rescue disk.

Boot your system to DOS from the rescue disk and select
ntfsFileRecovery from the menu. You can use the program to
browse through your file system and maybe find the files you
are looking for. If they are there, then you can use a registered
version of ntfsFileRecovery to copy them out.
