When deleting files they do not go to the recylce bin and
the disk space is not freed up! Turning off recycle bin
enables files to be deleted and recover the disk space.
Has anyone else got this problem? I suspect it's a
Microsoft fault in updates but they won't help or admit
problem is their making. If you have this problem and our
unaware of it your hard disk will very quickly fill up!

Hi, Mike.
When deleting files they do not go to the recylce bin and
the disk space is not freed up!

Are you unhappy because they DON'T go to the RB? Or because disk space is
NOT freed up? Each time you delete a file, one or the other - but not
both - should happen.

When we delete files, they do go to the Recycle Bin, by default. That means
they are not truly deleted; they are still on the disk (in the RB). When we
Empty the Recycle Bin, THEN they are actually deleted and the disk space is
available for reuse.

We can delete files immediately, skipping the Recycle Bin, in at least two
ways. One is to hold down the Shift key when we Delete. This is the "ad
hoc" method that works for one deletion at a time. The other way is to
change the default settings: Right-click the Recycle Bin, then click
Properties and check the box for "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin."
From then on, each deletion does free up disk space.

Just make sure you really do want to delete those files, because WinXP
provides no way to get them back without expert help or a third-party
program.
