Recycle Bin Automatic Delete

I see you have a few topics about this, but no answers help me. My Recycle
Bin, God knows why, but for some reason now, nothing goes to it. Whenever I
delete something, it automatically is deleted, it doesn't ask me to send it
to the Recycle Bin. Now, the only way to fix it that I've heard is through
the little check box that says "do not send files" blah blah blah under the
Global tab window. As stated before, it isn't checked. I've tried checking
it, rebooting, unchecking it, rebooting, just about everything I can do with
that option...nothing. Does anybody have a way to fix this?

You might want to take a look here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Scroll down to line 64. Click on Repair/Replace the Recycle Bin.
Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the downloaded .reg file and select "Yes" when
asked if you want to add the information to your registry.

Post back if this doesn't help.

Hi, NF007.
My OS is WXP Home, SP1, SP2 not installed. Properties of recycle bin has 2
tabs - Global and "C drive". I click only the button to treat all drives the
same under Global, click Apply. Then click on "C" tab, make sure the
automatic delete is greyed there and not checked. See how much space has
been allocated for the bin - enough but not too much, Apply.
If you have SP2, I am no help, as I have not installed it so don't know if
that might affect the bin properties.
Hope this helps...

So much for the easy route. I've only seen something similiar to
what you've described on a PC I use to test stuff. When I went to
restore something I'd deleted I discovered that nothing was
displayed in the Recycle bin. It looked empty. It turns out the
items were there, they just weren't visible. I'm not sure why
this happened but I suspected that the Recycle Bin folder on one
of the partitions got corrupted somehow. Here's what I did to
correct the problem (Note: Following this procedure will
permanently delete any items that may be in the Recycle Bin).

Right click on the Recycle Bin. If "Empty the Recycle Bin" is not
grayed out then select it and answer Yes in the box that pops up.
Note: If that line is grayed out it means the Recycle Bin is in
fact empty

Go to Start -> Run and type cmd.exe in the Open box. This brings
up the Command Prompt window.
For a Fat32 partition type rd C:\recycled /s and hit Enter. Enter
y when asked "Are you Sure"
For an NTFS partition type rd C:\recycler /s and hit Enter. Enter
y.
To be on the safe side, I'd do both. Check that they were removed
by typing dir c:\ /a and hitting Enter.
If your hard drive has multiple partitions, you'll have to do
this for each one.

Windows will create a new Recycle Bin the next time you delete
something. Go back to your desktop and create some dummy files
and folders. Delete them and check to see if they show up in the
Recycle Bin.

If this doesn't solve your problem it may be time to try the
following procedures.

1. Run System File checker. Go to Start -> Run and type cmd.exe
in the Open box.
Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.

2. Perform a Repair installation of Windows XP. For more info,

Make sure you've backed up any data you can't afford to lose.

Good luck.
