Hi

I am creating a desktop image for my organisation (500 users) and nee
to customise normal.dot. I have done this and it works fine. What
want to do is find the location where normal.dot is created from so i
a user deletes normal.dot, it gets recreated.

We are running windows XP running Office 2000 SP3

I found a normal.fmt file where Im assuming it gets created from. Ca
anyone see an issue if I copy normal.dot over normal.fmt? The fil
sizes are quite different. Is this the way to ensure newly create
normal.dot files are the same? This issue only exists as by defaul
the user templates (hence normal.dot) are user specific (i

Normal.Dot is intended to be personal to each user and you should NOT
contemplate screwing around with individual user's normal.dot templates
unless you enjoy being lynched.

You should create another template that contains the customizations that you
require and place that in the WorkGroup templates folder.

As DOug has said, normal.dot is for the user to keep their customisations -
not yours. If you deleted my normal.dot and replaced it with your, I'd use
your private parts as a tobacco pouch.

As Doug says, create a template and place it in the Workgroup Folder on the
server and make sure that everyone's file locations settings point to it. If
you want to share other customisations such as toolbars, AutoText, macros,
etc., then again create a custom template, use Organiser to make sure that
all the customisations are saved with the template. Then place the template
on the Server in a Start-up folder and make sure that all users' file
locations settings Start-up point to the correct location.
