Hi guys & dolls,
need solution if its possible to recover my office
disk. This original disk now won't
load up. What I have done is wash it with, washing up liquid, fraid to give
it any harsher treatment.
I attempted to copy and burn , to no avail. this disk goes back to 2003.

Not much solution, left, since they're no longer available. You could try in
an Office newsgroup/forum, as this is not a Windows issue.

If you try to make a copy of the defective CD, it may not complete the
process but it might show which files are corrupted. I had a similar
problem with a WinXP Pro CD that would not load, it had a minor scratch.
Tried cleaning it with polishing compound, but that didn't solve the
problem. Then I tried to make a copy of the CD, but during the process it
showed that it could not copy certain files, and it named them; ah ha,
there's the culprit. So I dragged all of the files execpt the defective
ones to a new folder on the HDD, and then I dragged files from a good CD to
replace the defective ones. Then I made a copy of that, and it works and
loads XP Pro.

One quite often sees such software available for free or low cost on
http://craigslist.org -- check the metro areas nearest you.

I forgot to add ... why even bother to replace such antiquated, unsupported
software when http://openoffice.org is available for free, and it will work
with everything that you have left from your other office applications;
*.doc, *.xls, powerpoint etc.

When will Calc have an "Accounting" cell format setting?
"currency" is not the same.

You're screwed.
I suggest you go on eBay and buy an Office Student and Teacher Edition,
this way you can install that copy of Office on more than one machine.
Microsoft will want at least $40 for a replacement CD/DVD if it is still
available.

Why is it that the link you provided hangs my IE? The site won't load
completely, then IE is dead, can't get rid of the window.

Notice that the ending, ";[ln];326246" isn't linked, or not in the
original post, read through my Thunderbird newsreader anyway.. so it's
dropped from the address. If you add that to the address, or just
copy/paste the complete link into the address bar, it might work better.

Reboot and retry. Let us know if the same happens after

No, that link does not work. It hangs Internet Explorer for about 30
seconds as it's trying to load, then freezes the window...have to do three
finger salute to end task.

It doesn't work for *you*. It works fine for me and I expect it does the
same for most everyone else.

It works just fine but you have to paste the entire link into the

further news, regarding Cd rom.
the problem was relating IE5 explorer file IEMIL_3 data error cyclic
redundancy check
what I did then was copy rom details, leaving IE5 out altogether ,then burn
new copy.
I know it it starts to load up , but it is already on the computer

Very well.

First Internet Explorer 6 came with Windows XP.
Second it WAY past support.
Try using current, supported and updated software.
