Does a new factory installed Iinspiron 9300 2005 require a discovery disk if
needed or is this a built in feature. Thank you for a helpful response

IMO you should always have an installation CD with the system. Check
the documentation for how it recovery works on your system.

Dell Inspiron? All new Dell systems come with the Windows XP on a
hidden "system recovery" partition on the hard drive. There is a
one-time utility provided that will create recovery CDs from the
contents of this partition.

You can order the install CDs with the new system, but there is an
extra charge for these.

One should always own the CD for the OS they want to continue to use.
