Hi guys,

I recently had problems when my 10 year old kid didnt
shut down the computer properly, and we got a message
when we next booted up saying the windows system
directory wasnt found.

Booted up the xp disk, and used the recovery console to
repair this by using chkdsk. It rebooted, and a bar came
onto the screen to signify it loading, and it worked like
normal again.

Every startup now, it shows the same loading bar which
takes about a minute before windows loads. Anyone know
how to stop this from coming up every bootup? Would be
useful as it takes longer to come on now.

Cheers

Is that relevant to the problem?

I suspect some residual damage is at work here. It may be nothing
more than lost prefetch data or DLL cache contents that slow an
otherwise normal loading process, and if so, it may auto-correct
itself after a few defrags, as use re-populates the prefetch data.

Thanks for that Carey, i shall defragment it later, and see
if the problem goes away.

Recovery Console doesnt appear in boot.ini so I can't
remove it anyway.

Thanks for both your help.
