I am trying to use the repair option on my reinstallation disk, which I did
the other day and worked fine (but ran into major problems trying to download
SP2). Now I get a screen that says

1: C:\WINDOWS
Which Windows installation would you like to log onto
(To cancel, press ENTER)?

I'm afaid I need this to be a multiple choice question, but it's not. Any
help? I need baby steps.

Not entirely sure what you are asking, but if you are trying to do a repair
install, then you choose the option to install Windows at the first screen
(rather than pressing r there which is for the recovery console) and choose
the repair option after a screen or two.

What I'm getting is a screen that says Welcome to Setup. This portion of the
Setup program prepare Microsoft (R) Windows(R) XP to run on your computer.

To install Windows XP now, press Enter

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

I have been pressing R to repair (I thought). Am I on the wrong screen?
And how do I get to the right one? Thanks for your help.

Press Enter to install Window.

It would be a multiple choice but you've only got one installation of
Windows happening so your choices are limited to 1. Press 1, and
continue from there. You'll need the account details of an
Administrator to do anything in there so make sure you have them at
hand.
