I've just replaced a motherboard and as advised, need to run a repair
installation. So I booted from my XP CD, selected a repair
installation, then hit return when prompted for the administrator
password.

At this point, I'm now at a C:\Windows prompt. I presume the repair
would happen automatically. What steps am I meant to take now?

Thanks,

P.

Are you sure you need to do repair install? What happens if you just try to
boot up normal?
All info is stored on HDD not Motherboard unless it's OEM where registry is
linked to motherboard BIOS.

When I try to boot normal, it's get as far as the XP logo and then
reboots spontaneously.

What brand and model computer do you have?
Do yuo know if your XP is retail version or MFG version?

That is not a repair install, you are loading the Recovery Console. See link

Thanks all, that did the trick. That first menu is rather confusing.
Unfortunately, World of Warcraft no longer works for me, so looks like
I'll have to do a complete re-install anyway, doh.
