Recovering User Files

So I somehow lost the NTLDR on my system and had to do an
OS rebuild. (Windows XP Home Edition)

My vendor recovery software conveniently copied the old
user files into a nice holding directory for me, however,
now I have set up the system and gotten back in I cannot
access the files specific to my old account. I can see
the directories, but when I select my old 'My Documents'
directory I get "Access Denied"

They were originally in a password protected Admin
account with the same account name and password I'm using
now. I dont even get an opportunity to enter the old
password.

In any other system I would as admin simply go change the
access permissions on the files and away Id go .. but I
cannot for the life of me find how to do this on XP....

I've tried dragging into the shared folder... I've tried
undoing read only and applying through the file tree but
this appears to fail to take.

Any help please .. I have a 6 months of unbacked-up (I
know...I know...) family digital pictures in there.

Thanks,

Dave L
