It is just like any other file... You can try a recovery application - but
you didn't give much detail...

Did you install Windows XP on the same hard drive that 'crashed' before?
Either way - what do *you* mean by hard disk drive crash?

What do you mean by "a hard drive crash"? Normally a hard drive crash means
the drive is dead and unusable. you can't restore anything on it; you need
to replace the drive.

So did you install on a new drive or the old one?

If you reinstalled on a new drive, depending on what happened to the old
one, it's possible that a data recovery service may be able to recover at
least some of what was on it. However, be aware that such services are very
expensive (probably over $1000 US) and may or may not help you.

If you somehow reinstalled on the old drive, again a data recovery service
may be able to help you, but I wouldn't count on it.

For the future, be aware that anything you "desparately need" needs to be
backed up. It is always possible that a hard drive crash, user error, nearby
lightning strike, virus attack, even theft of the computer, can cause the
loss of everything on your drive. As has often been said, it's not a matter
of whether you will have such a problem, but when.

Hi thanks for your quick response.

Crashed is probably me just being over dramatic. What happened was, i
used Partition magic 8 to resize my XP drive to make a new partition
with vista. When the system rebooted, Partition Magic said it had
encountered an error and then it restarted the computer.

When the computer started up again, it went to the windows booting
screen for about 2 seconds and then flashed quickly to a blue screen.
It then restarted itself.

After some research i discovered that the windows partition had been
hidden. I didn't have an xp cd to reinstall windows, so i installed
PClinuxOS whilst i downloaded the XP Home .iso. (not the one i want to
recover) So when that had finished, i deleted the other partitions
during the xp setup process and then installed it on just one large
partition.

But what i am looking for is any program to get back an iso file
because all of the ones i have tried do not search for that file type.

Thanks in Advance

Umm what *precisely* do you mean by this? What "XP Home iso" are you talking
about?

What is being said is that there is no 'legitimate' Windows XP Home ISO out
there that they know of...

As I said earlier - recovering an ISO file is no different than any other
file - and I have never heard of a recovery program or search application
that could not search for whatever file extension you wanted... *.iso should
not be an exception.
