Allan

Foolishly I updated an Excel file by overwriting it.
Two hours later I realised I had made some bad errors that could not easily
be changed.
Ideally I want the file back before I overwrote it.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get the original file back
Many thanks

Allan

Hi Allan!

Unless you have a backup or earlier version, you are out of luck.

Perhaps you might outline what the bade errors are and we may be able
to help.

Thanks for that
Basically I had about 1000 entries in column A
I also had some entries in columns B,C,D,E,F
eg Name(A) phone number (B) height (C) weight (D) phone number (E)
Address(F)
only about 3% of columns BCDEF were completed in no particular order.
Without realising it, somehow the columns all moved some up, somedown it
fcat they were spread far and wide. The only way it appears to get the back
in order is going through each one individually and trying to sort out which
is proper to column A
Hope that makes sense
I feel that unless I can go back to before the major change there is no way
round this

Allan

Hi Allan!

Sounds like bad news! I suspect that you did some bad data sorting
where you didn't select all columns and rows of data. That makes it
difficult if not impossible to reverse with the shifting up and down
being the result of sorting with blanks in the column.

Original data source?

Hi Allan!

No problems. You've learned the number one rule of computing;
backup!!!!

Number 2 rule is to download the latest operating system patches from

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Do it now! A major virus is expected in the very near future.
