recovering cut item

Mistakenly cut a huge chunk from a manuscript..Saved it
and shut down...restarted computer and tried to paste but
clipboard shows as empty...lokked for temp files from this
date but found none...no autorecover options set....Is it
lost forever?

Yes, it was lost the moment you shut down.
