How do you know you actually saved over the old file. The
only way you can be sure of that would be if you are using a
floppy. Never read or write directly to a floppy from Excel. http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/backup.htm
If the file was on your hard drive you might try "Drive Rescue"
see page above, but don't count on recovering deleted files.
You might also look in the directory that your file is in for a
file without any file extension and with a machine generated filename..
