I have Word 2000 and am running Windows XP. I
inadvertently deleted all text from a Word document and
then 'saved' it. Is there any way to recover the text
that was in that document.

Susie,

If you have your autosave feature turned ON, you can try
searching your backup files to see if there is a previous
version of your document.

First, ensure that it is turned ON, and set for a short
period of time between autobackups

Tools | Options | Save: select autorecover, and set to the
amount of time that is acceptable to lose informtion. I
set mine to ten minutes.

Next, click the File Locations tab and locate the
directory where your AutoRecover files are saved. Navigate
to that folder and see if you can find your document
there.

There will not be an AutoRecovery backup if the document has been closed,
and it is not user-openable, anyway. If the file is still open, you can Undo
back to the original condition. And if you have "Always create backup copy"
enabled on the Save tab of Tools | Options, you can recover the previous
version as "Backup of <filename>.wbk." See
