Hi all,

I have mistakenly formatted a partition, and would like to recover
some of the files it held. The problem is that some things have
already been written to the partition after the format, so I know I
have lost some of the data I'm trying to recover.

Now to maximize my potential for recovery, I'd like hints for the
software I should use. I have found some on the net, but there are
many, and it's difficult to choose. Has anyone some experience to
share on the subject ? Positive or not, anything is usefull to me.

Thanks,

Hi,

To try and retrieve your deleted files, you would want to use an undelete
utility. These are commonly available for free, and work on the premise that
the space the file formerly occupied has not been overwritten with new data
yet. Once that has occured, recovery requires more extensive (and expensive)
work with dedicated forensic tools by someone who knows what they are doing.

This one here works quite well for basic file recovery:

Hi Remi,

I will second that vote for Restoration 2.514. It stays on my thumb drive as a must have utility for working on clients machines.
