I have a message on my answering machine. I would like to save it to
an mp3 or wav.
Can this be done with anything included in XP?

I do have a mic and it works with Yahoo messenger.

In Help and Support, enter "Using Sound Recorder" in the Search
box.

Good luck

Start | Run <type in>
SNDREC32
<enter>

If your Mic already works you should be good to go.

I just tried this and it works. Thanks

Now, how can I make a recording more than 60 seconds?

I don't see this in the help file.

That takes a bit of work on your part
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/82215
(This works for all versions of windows)

Now if you want something easier to work with that's third party, you
might look at Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
That is awfully complicated just to record an answering machine
message. I had one answering machine message I was trying to record
that was a little under 2 min.

I found out that if you press record again that 60 seconds will be
added to the clock. Because that left a skip in the middle I also
found that I could just rerecord over the file that was now 120 seconds
long.

It took me about 10 min of play time to record a 2 min message. It
also took about 30 mins to figure out the combination.

I love Windoze.

Use a hand held tape recorder.

Windows can do many things but not everything. There are some
superb third-party sound recorders out there, and I suspect that
the companies making them would be more than a little upset if
Microsoft included one in Windows, free of charge.

Instead of spending 30 minutes of your paid time, you might have
downloaded Audacity, as suggested by Pennywise. It's a nice
little recorder and it's free!
