Anyone know of any easy to use downloadable freeware that will allow you to
record audio from a tape recorder to an mp3 with windows xp. (I know about
sound recorder but it only works for 60 seconds at a time)

There are a lot of shareware programs available here:

Maybe you could get by with the trial version of one of these.

I personally use the products at http://www.magix.com. I have used their
Audio Cleaning Lab to transfer tapes, records and discs to mp3, and it has
a lot of useful tools for cleaning up hiss, hum and clicks from the
transfers.
Not free, but well worth the $39.95.

Good luck.

There are dozens of applications out there that do just what you want.
Here's what you do: go to google and search them out. You'll be well
rewarded and feel more satisfied at the job well done.

It's not quite free, but I have used and been very pleased with Silent Bob Pro.
Wait...now that I think about it I believe there was a freeware version,
although I did get the "Pro" version because it had some additional features I
liked. IIRC it was less than US$20 for the shareware "Pro" version.
