Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. I bought a Compaq computer with a
built-in Cd burner(Sony CD-RW CRX215E5). I can burn data to a CD-R disk but
not to a CD-RW disk. Can someone please tell me why it will not record to a
CD-RW disk & what i can do to fix it? Any help would be appreciated...TIA.

What burning software are you using & how are you trying to burn?

I used RecordNow that came with my computer & i also tried with the CD
writing wizard in Windows XP. I opened up the folder of the data i wanted to
copy & clicked "write files to CD". It works with a CD-R but not a CD-RW
disk. I'm relatively new to using a computer so i don't know much about this
stuff.

I'm not at all familiar with RecordNow, but for the XP burning software, you
might as well use CDRs. They're cheaper, and if you shop around, there are
always silly sales that will get you a good deal on them.

If you want to use a CDRW for drag 'n drop burning, you have to format them
first, which is a waste of time.

I couldn't figure out how to format them. My user's guide says to right
click the drive icon in "My Computer" & select "Format" but when i do that
there is nothing there saying "Format". The user's guide also says something
about downloading "Drive Letter Access"(DLA) software but i have not found
that either. It is not at the URL address that it gives.

I have noticed that some CDRW's come ready formatted for packet writing (use
with Nero's INCD or HP DLA) and are completely useless for the regular
burning process.. when buying CDRW's, be careful to check packaging.. I
prefer to work with them because they can be overwritten if necessary..

Thanks Mike, i may have to try the Nero INCD.

If your computer is like my HP Laptop, DLA is NOT installed by default.
I got a separate CD containing Roxio Easy CD Creator, if you did, put
that CD in the drive and install the DLA feature. If you didn't get
the CD, post the URL here along with the model number of your computer
and I'll try and find the right place to download DLA or, you could go
to the HP/Compaq website and look under support and downloads. They'll
ask the name and model number of your computer and then send you to the
download place.
