Recording an on-screen animation

A colleague has sent me a program which contains several short, on-screen
animations, one of which I'd like to record directly off the screen and send
to someone. Is there an easy way of achieving this?

I'm well aware of the Print Screen button, but that's obviously not
appropriate for this use, and Google has thrown up a large number of
irrelevant search results.

Many thanks.

S/he sent you a "program"? You sure about that?

Probably several, depending.

That's because Google doesn't do much better with 'vague' than anyone/thing
else. :-)

What "program" did your colleague send you, and what file types did it
contain?

[Man. This could get ugly if the dude really did run a *program* sent to
him by whom he believed to be a 'colleague' without scanning it first.]

Is this something you are viewing on your browser or is it a standalone
file? If on your browser, it is probably a Flash or Shockwave file and
you should be able to find it in the Temporary Internet Files. If the
animation was in the body of an e-mail you can probably save it to disk.

Hello....
there are 2 ways.....

Either you isolate the files, for example if the animation files are gif or
SWF (flash) you find those and copy them, You might need a player to play
the SWF files. A free one is this:

http://www.globfx.com/products/swfplayer/

or if they are somehow locked or protected....

you download and install windows media encoder 9 that can record your
screen.
This is free. Download here by selecting encoder on the first dropdown box
and then
Windows media encoder 9 series on the second drop down box
