Recording a macro of keystrokes in Outlook?

This is odd; in Outlook I can't find how to record a macro while one is
using Outlook so that it records the keystrokes. It seems, at least with a
standard setup, that one can only go to the VB editor. Am I missing
something? Thanks.

No, you're not missing anything. There's no macro recorder for Outlook, you
have to code macros from scratch using Outlook VBA. See www.outlookcode.com
for information on Outlook VBA macro coding.

Thanks! I'll check it out. (Wonder what the rationale for it was; I guess
they thought people wouldn't need it, I guess. Not true, eh?! <g>)

I saw your response and I believe I responded back to this msg but it's not
showing up here at work in OE (and short of re-dl _everything_ don't know
how to re-dl headers in OE. Agent sure is easier in this respect). Anywho,
something came to me last night. I just found out about "gestures", a an
that can process what seems to be like what a hotkey is to keystrokes but
this involves the mouse and mouse clicks, etc. Compacting is an issue at
home so it might be a solution to this; I can set up mouse clicks to
automate the compact process. I belong to about 40 yahoo groups so I can
get up to several megs of mail a day with all the graphic attachments from
the graphic groups. Compacting really reduces space and I sometimes do this
up to 3-4 times a day.

That might be one solution.

The other is to set O2K to compact like I do in Agent. The lowest possible
percentage is, obviously when one thinks about it <g>, 1%. I have Agent set
to compact at that on exit so it does this each and every time as the figure
is so small. Is there such an equivalent in O2K, by any chance, to compact
on a certain percentage on exit?

Thank you.

I don't know anything about "gestures", but compacting is all or nothing.
Once you start a compaction of a PST file it runs to completion.

Yes, this is understood.

I'm sorry I obviously wasn't clear. I guess I should have given the
wording used in Agent as I obviously didn't explain well enough.
There is an option on when to "purge" in Agent that I'm trying to find
the equivalent for in O2K.

One can set the percentage at which this compacting will occur upon
exiting the newsreader. And since I use the lowest possible number,
that means that the db get compacted each and every time Agent exits,
not once in a while, simply because 1% is extremely low.

Here's the exact wording in the options dialogue box where we can
affect this - it's in the "when to purge" tab in the default
properties box for all groups in the Agent newsreader:

WHEN TO PURGE
_(ticked)_ When closing Agent

Compact only if wasted Space is at least _1_ percent"

Is there an equivalent setting somewhere in O2K? I've obviously, as
always, gone to the help file first but couldn't find anything re
this.

If a setting can be set to do this, then I wouldn't have to worry
about compacting as it would always be done upon exiting O2K. I get
up to a meg in mail some days because I belong to 45 or so yahoo
groups, some of which are a graphics learning ones. Compacting is
critical for me yet I, quite frankly, am tired of all the mouse
clicks! <g> I'll get carpal tunnel if I have to keep using them for
much longer <lol>.

Thank you.

There is no way to set when to compact a PST file. It can be done
automatically when Outlook is idle for a certain amount of time but that
setting isn't under your control. You can set the Outlook archive functions
to remove items from your PST at set time intervals and either copy them
into an archive PST or just delete them but that doesn't also compact the
PST, which is a separate option.
