If I want to record some live music, through my PC microphone what software
on XP can I use? Right now when I try to get this to work with Sound
Recorder it will only record a few minutes at a time. Is there anything in
XP that will record for 30 min + , possible something I can set a default
record time 5 min so that I don't have to race down from the stage to stop
the recorder after each song??? I'm just using this for personal use so
quality isn't a big issue.

Really you want some third party program - there is plenty out there,
see for example www.tucows.com

But you can play a trick on Sound Recorder - record a maximum length of
Silence, save it as say Silence .wav. Then use the Edit - Insert to
insert multiple copies of it until the duration is what you need
(probably saving an intermediate length so as to make the subsequent
insertions easier). Then save that for future use - and record over
the top of it
