want to

What sound card do you have? "What you hear recording" is driver
specific.

I know the latest Creative sound card drivers have it.

If you do have it it will be in the sound options in control panel
under the recording tab.

Mine is a laptop Lenovo T60. The sound card showed in hardware manager is:

Sound MAX integrated Digital HD Audio.

Sorry I still couldn't find that option as in XP or 2k or any earlier
version of windows.

Any suggestion

Thanks

Is this a new laptop with Vista installed or did you upgrade it from
XP?

If it's a new laptop there is a good chance you will not have the
"What you hear" recording available. You will have to do as others
suggested and use a 3rd party application.

If you upgraded it and you had the "What you hear" recording prior to
installing Vista you need to go to Sound Max's web site and see if
they have any Vista drivers for your onboard sound.

Unfortunately, it is a preloaded laptop. I feel Microsoft removing these
functions are pushing his customers into more troubles.

Thanks Dave

I had the same issue, but finally figured it out. For me, it was Studio Mix, or Stereo Mix...something like that. I use the "HI-Q" Recorder, the only thing that worked perfectly for me. There's a free version to get you used to it...and from there, you're in!

Microsoft didn't remove anything that feature was never a part of
Windows that feature was supplied by your sound card drivers not
Microsoft.

If that feature was important to you then you should have taken the
time to make sure the new laptop sound card drivers supported it.

Once again, download a 3rd party application that allows you to do what
you want.

they removed the game port support that my soundcard has.......

The topic was 'Record what you hear' options not game ports

Yes Microsoft has stopped support for the game ports. I just did a
quick search to find an answer why, this is the best answer I could
find in a weak attempt.

You must understand that sometimes in order to move forward you have
to let other things go. Should Sony still make 4 track tape players
for eveyone who had the tapes?

I like to think all OS versions are "Transitional" certain features
are slowly phased out as new features are implemented. If you think
about it, it's really the only way it can happen to please as many
people as possible. As technology changes so do the Operating Systems
need to, quite frankly game ports are yesterdays news.

Could it really be to sell more game controllers? Sure it could! but
sooner or later your going to have to buy a new Joy Stick anyways,
Microsoft is a business after all. If you have an issue with that
SIMPLE don't upgrade or buy a PC with it installed (especially if
your a PC gamer). Use one of the many alternative OS's out there, I
am sure you'll find many people in here who would love to help you
migrate.

I did how ever find someone who claims to have made his own 3rd party
driver to get the game port working again.

I have no idea if it works.........you make the choice (after
reading) to try it or not.
