Is there a good freeware application where I can record web cams I see online?

Depends on what protocol they're using, and probably what browser you're
using. In Firefox, I find DownloadHelper works with a lot of embedded
videos, but I'm not sure if a _continuous_ feed like a webcam would work
with it.

Some webcams use flash (I think), some (especially recorded) use
animated .gif, some just use HTML auto-refresh.

Just remember a 3min webcam movie can be 2GB of Disk..
