Old Time Harold

I have now completed all the updates to Win XP pro and the sound card on my
Sony Laptop--Via97--will no longer record. The error message says "Can't
open SndVol32.exe, use control panel to install." This is all nice except
SndVol32.exe is installed in my dll cahe and I moved a copy of it and the
record volume control to the windows root directory. Still won't pick up a
microphone. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and troubleshot the sound
card. No avail.

Help anyone?

Delete everything to do with your soundcard, your laptop is confused, poor
beast. Even delete any left over registry entries (back up first of course
.....). Then re-install. That should fix it.
