Record Macro using existing text?

How do I create a macro using text that's already been typed up - 2007 version?

I tried highlighting the text, then clicking Record Macro (doesn't work that
way)

What are you trying to do with the text? If you just want to be able to
reinsert specific text, you can save it as a building block (AutoText
entry). If you're wanting to apply specific formatting to the selection or
manipulate it in some way, the macro recorder will record the actions you
take.
