Hi Folks,

Can anybody recommend a good/free presentations creation package. The sort
of stuff I want to produce is from basic PowerPoint (business stuff) to self
running interactive presentations (point/click button procedures etc.).
Also perhaps for creating photograph shows/albums with sound/music/sub
titles for weddings and special occasions to be stored and run from DVD (on
TV) As far as I've been able to find out - that would be MPEG format (?).

I've been scouring Google but the ones I've found are rather pricey :(

Any advice much appreciated.

OpenOffice.org has a built in Presentations module and I think it even
can open and save to Microsoft Presentation format:

Several years ago, Canon offered up a freeware program called Mediator that
does all you ask. It's still available here and there so you could Google
for it.

It does require an initial registration though during the initial install so
that may be a stopper, if Canon are no longer sponsoring it. If you monitor
your registry before and after install, you can extract the key for any
future re-installs.

The program was made by Matchware so perhaps you could try a search on that
term as well.

Powerbullet Presenter is another possibility. It's meant for producing Flash
Presentations but can created self-running executables as well. Not nearly
as user friendly as PowerPoint, but it meets the freeware requirement.

No url handy right now, so you'll have to hunt it down yourself.

There's a fair assortment of Freeware for those tasks - much of it is listed on the ACF program info
pages - in particular:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_GRAPHICS.php
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_MULTIMEDIA.php

The Category Index page is here - from there you can go directly to subcategories that look promising:

I saved a few notes about that from earlier posts on the subject:

<q>
won't instal because the Canon registration system doesn't respond.
-------
It is possible to install (hint FAX)
-------
Better hint please
-------
at the start of the install there is an ini file in a temp directory that has a line controlling
whether or not you get the opportunity to register by fax. Edit, save and proceed with entering details.
</q>

(Search Google's archive of ACF posts if you want the complete thread.)

I see download links have already been posted. :)

I haven't tried these, but they've been recommended in here by others:

Introducing Powerbullet Presenter freeware

Powerbullet Presenter is a small, simple and free program for creating
presentations in the Flash™ format. You don't need any experience to
create slick animated presentations by typing, clicking and dragging.

Powerbullet Presenter is specifically designed for creating multi-page
presentations that are commonly used in electronic sales brochures and
catalogues, splash screens, slideshows and student projects.

You can also create a self-running show, specifying delays on each
page, or you can link the timing to the sound attached to each page.

Your presentations can be exported as an HTML page with an embedded
SWF (Flash) file or as an executeable file which you can run on any
Windows PC.
About Powerbullet Presenter Plus
Powerbullet Presenter freeware is a complete production tool with
loads of functionality to get you up and running quickly, creating
professional Flash Presentations in minutes. However, if you need some
of the extra features of Powerbullet Presenter Plus, you can upgrade
at any time at a cost of only $19.95. For this you get advanced
control features (such as special button-click actions, and timed
animations) and extra display features (such as rollover effects,
custom navigation buttons). Upgrading to Presenter Plus will grant you
a life-time license - that is, free upgrades when any new features are
added. And in addition to the regular Presenter User Forums, you get
extended support in the Presenter Plus Forum.

Many thanks to all who replied - Mediator seems promising as it appears to
have its own built in player. I'll check each of them out individually.

All the best
