I would like a p2p client for dial-up connection...also if can talk to a
specific user over the network that would be a bonus...Thanks bobby

I like Ares a lot. It's very good and spyware-adware free. Tho I've
never used it, it has a chat feature as well.

As with all such programs, be sure you're getting from homesite or an
authorized/reputable download site.Never, ever download from any other
sirt of site, obviously not from any that say you'll get Ares for free
if you sign up with them, etc. [There are several of these fraud sites
out there.] It's always been free, and one of my favorites.

I've also used LimeWire, which is adware/spyware-free, tho of late I've
had a bit of trouble with bogus downloads, viruses, trojans. Often you
can recognize this when so many file sizes for various things are the
same size. [I bought the pro vers a while back and have been very happy
with it.] Another obvious tip: always run your up-to-date
antivirus/anti-spyware against anything you download. Not a bad idea to
run after you install whatever p2p you go with to ensure it's really
adware-spyware free.
Freeware-wise for LimeWire, there are two different installs to
download, a basic, smaller install that will then go online and install
the full app, or a full install [obviously larger].
Pro version is not available for trial.

Another thing I was rather surprised to find out a friend of mine
didn't realize when she had installed her p2p is that often when you
close the app, it's actually still running -- usually an icon in the
system tray, though some apps hide this as well. She was wondering why
her pc was so slow until I pointed out that her p2p was still running.
Usually nothing secretive about this, unless _you_ are the one wanting
to make this invisible to others, so if you really want to exit from
the app and stop all your downloads, including people getting files
from you, be sure it's fully shut down. Exiting the app and
disconnecting are two different things. And if you want to re-start
continuing downloads later, use the pause or whatever your app calls
it, rather than just exiting the prog. Some can get a bit weird about
just exiting without pause and really corrupt your downloads.
