Recent Programs not listed

the dialog box that opens when you press the start button used to show a list of recently used programs - this no longer happens - any suggestions. I have tried decreasing and increasing the number to display but nothing shows
 
I have the exact same problem. If anyone out there has a solution it would be most appreciated.
