Receiving Faxes when Line is split

Does andbody know what happens if you have 2 Pc's attached to the same phone
line (via line splitter) when you have both configured to auto-answer
incoming faxes.
 
The one with the fastest modem wins. It then sends a fax to the second PC
that says "Eat my dust!"
Your question would depend greatly on the settings you specified for each
PC, the Fax software involved and the hardware, none of which you mentioned.
 
Thanks Russ, would probably look to use Wndows XP integrated fax software
with basic USR internal modems not sure what settings would make the
difference though. I think as long as at least one answered it would not be a
problem.

Why would you set things up this way? The one set to the lowest
number of rings for auto-answer would always "win". If both were set
up to the same number of rings, almost anything might happen!

yes - correct. but this setup might be useful to support the system if one
of the machine dies. Typically though, you would want to configure the faxes
on the two machines to receive on different number of rings.
