receiving error 80042108 in outlook when receiving messages since.

Since installing outlook 2003 junk email filter update I have been unable to
receive emails in outlook, when attempting to receive mail send/recieve comes
back with receiving error 80042108, though it has no trouble connecting to
the server and sending.
 
That means that Outlook can't connect to your POP3 server. Check your
incoming mail server name, and try turning off any incoming mail scanning
in any anti-virus software you may have.

I had not changed my mail server name or mail scanning and anti-virus
software when the problem emerged. I have since used the system restore tool
to restore my system to an earlier time and the problem has disappeared.

Are you running Windows XP? If so, had you recently installed SP-2 for it?
If so, it may be that the Windows firewall was blocking your connection to
the server. You'd be better off with SP-2 re-installed, and configuring
the firewall to let you connect than running without SP-2.
