Receiving a Fax using Symantec Winfax Starter Edtion

When I enable "Automatic receive FAX" in the Outlook
Tools Options, it causes all calls to think a fax is
coming in and you get the FAX peep and noise when you
answer your phone. I assumed my modem would recognize a
FAX verses a voice call. Is there a way to setup Symantec
Winfax Starter Edition to enable automatic receive fax
and eliminate the problem I have noted?

No fax software supports distinctive ring. When you tell it to answer the
line, it will.
The alternative is to install an external switching device to your phone
line.
