Receiving a Cyclical Redundancy Error

Trying to connect my new Canon PowerShot S1 IS camera on my laptop and I keep
getting the above noted error. I've tried connecting the camera to another
computer and it works great. Both computers have XP Pro, the desktop came
loaded with it, and I installed XP on my laptop - it previously had XP Home
Edition.

Hi,

A CRC error indicates a corrupt file, whatever file the camera is trying to
use is unusable. I would check with the manufacturer as to which one (much
may depend on the type of connection being used).

Hi:
If the camera "works" on another computer though, wouldn't the corrupt file
be associated with XP? The tech at Canon felt I must have a computer related
problem with my laptop since the camera connected to the desktop. I
downloaded drivers from Canon, just cannot get it to connect.

Thanks for any suggestions and or advice :o)

Hi,

Oh, it's almost definitely an XP file - the camera likely relies on certain
system files as well as its own software. It's a matter of which system file
it is relying on. The connection type may be key to this, as the connections
generally rely on system files, not manufacturer driver software (which
provides for device integration once the connection is established). Many
cameras rely on USB, so this is a place to start if that is the connection
type:

Hi:

Thanks for the information. I have tried a couple of the steps recommended
on the page you provided the link for. I want to try uninstalling the USB
Controllers, but I have not learned how to reinstall them. When I can figure
that out, I'll try it and see if that will help. Appreciate you letting me
know is an XP file.

Thanks again,
